REPORT ON TLC 4

THE REPORT :
Date : 5th August 2009
Day : Wednesday
Venue : CCL Room, SK Batu Pekaka
Agenda : TLC 4

Today, two TLC members were absent : Puan Rohani and Mr Rozalee. They were involved with a short-noticed meeting for the senior assistants of their respective schools. The TLC meeting was carried out as usual even with the absence of the two members.

The activities done :
1. Discussions on the CCL lessons in schools and the updates of their portfolios and the pupils'
portfolios as well.
2. Their own journal entries
3. Planning to conduct a follow-up course on CCL to the other English teachers in the district.
This is to enable the TLC group members to share their experiences and information gained
when they attended the CLiPS course conducted by the JPN on 28th - 30th June 2009.
4.Sharing of activities done in their own schools eg : short sketches, choral reading, scrapbooks.

Even though the progress of the CCL lessons in the schools are rather slow, given time and support, I believe they will be able to come up with more interesting literature lessons in the near future. Thus, more moral support and encouragement should be given to these group of teachers so that the project-based literature lessons could be a reality.

To my TLC group members :
a million of thanks, appreciations and congratulations on the excellent work done and the collaborative-team work shown during the TLCs sessions. Hope this sharing sessions will be continued for a longer period.

A JOURNAL ENTRY BY NORIAH ABD RAHMAN

Journal : A Reflection of What You Expected from This Course.

When I was told to attend a 3-days course at BTPN Alor Setar about a month ago, my mind got stuck thinking of lots and lots of unfinished work. I have to leave a lot of work just because I have to attend the course. The most important thing was how am I going to leave my precious children because at the same time my husband also has to attend another 3-days course. I felt extremely upset thinking about leaving my children especially my new-born baby boy because he is too small and still breast-feeding. I can’t imagine how he would be. After a long discussion with my husband, we came to a concession that my children will be left with my mother-in-law and I will travel daily to and fro. That’s make me feel better. So, I went to the course with a relieved heart. Frankly speaking, being chosen for a course is a burden to me because I hate to leave my family. I don’t like to be away from them. I’ll miss them very much but what am I supposed to do. I am a carrier woman. I have to fulfill my responsibility towards what I have pledged.

During my first day at the course I was amazed when the facilitators showed their pictures when they were attending the CLiPS course in Singapore. Actually I am interested in teaching literature and I hope I will be able to present a good work and teach my pupils excellently. Sadly I am not a creative teacher, so it is difficult for me to think of something interesting to attract my pupils’ attention. When the facilitators introduced to us some of the interesting and fun activities that we can do with the pupils, it repolished my knowledge about teaching literature. Therefore I was glad to be chosen as one of the participant in the course. It is awesome to meet friends and share new ides about TLC with them. It has also upgraded my skills, knowledge and brought some new ideas for a teacher like me.

By attending this course, I hope I will be able to teach literature properly to my pupils in school. I also hope I will gain new ideas regarding TLC. Even though I am not creative, I can give some ideas. If I can’t give interesting ideas, I can lend my hands to complete the task. I can also give my supports towrds completing any assingment given. Then, after I have completed my TLC, I will teach my pupils and keep on with my portfolio and my pupils’ portfolios as well. Hopefully I will be able to fulfill my responsibility. As far I am concerned, literature is an interesting lesson which has lots and lots of interesting activities. I hope the pupils will also love literature
By the end of the courses I was glad and grateful to be chosen as one of the participants in this CCL course.

A JOURNAL ENTRY BY MASTURA YUSHAK

I feel lucky and grateful to be chosen to take part in TLC.

I hope that we can share ideas and implement them in our schools, get more inputs and enhance our ideas and creativities, work together to make the job of teaching literature in schools easier and fun, and discuss any problems regarding this job.

If possible, I would like to share my ideas and experiences in teaching literature with the other teachers out there.

After this course, I hope that I can implement and use the knowledge gained as much as possible in the teaching of children’s literature in the primary school.
